Bedfordview karateka shine at development tournament

"With continued commitment and practice, these athletes will one day break into the ranks of the elite athletes in Gauteng."

Three karateka from Bedfordview-based Goju Kai St Andrews Karate Academy claimed five medals when they competed in the Gauteng Karate Federation Development Championships.

Shihan Russell Sim of the dojo said the athletes had a wonderful time winning one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Cameron Holtzhauzen won a silver medal for kumite.

Emily Greyling won bronze medals for kata and kumite, while Cameron Holtzhauzen won a silver medal for kumite.

“Izabella Turton was the star of the day, winning a gold medal for kata and a silver for kumite,” said Sim.
