Suspects arrested in Germiston for R2-milion worth of counterfeit cigarettes

The three suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with R10 000.

Members of the EMPD and SAPS arrested three suspects recently after receiving information about counterfeit goods sold at a shop in Primrose.

The information was received on September 28.

Following investigations, law enforcement discovered illegal cigarettes worth about R2m, pharmaceutical products valued at R50 000 and illegal skin-bleaching merchandise valued at R20 000.

“The business owner also tried to bribe officers with R10 000,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

The three suspects were charged with possession of illicit cigarettes, pharmaceutical products, skin-bleaching merchandise and defeating the ends of justice.
