Ekurhuleni women encouraged to play a role in water supply industry

The MMC urged residents to not use containers that previously carried paint, oil or any harmful substance to store water.

MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy, Senzi Sibeko, attended a women’s month commemoration on August 26 where he urged women and girls to consider careers in water purification, planning and engineering.

Sibeko led a women’s team to distribute water containers to households in informal settlements to promote water conservation and hygiene.

He urged residents to not use containers that previously carried paint, oil or any harmful substance to store water.

“With this water campaign, the city is promoting safety and hygiene in water storage and consumption in all households.

“Even though a container that previously carried chemicals, oil, or paint may be cleaned, it may still compromise the water safety. That is the reason we distribute these containers,” said Sibeko.
