Ekurhuleni K9 Unit honoured at medal parade

The ceremony was hosted by Lieutenant Colonel Estie Steyl, Commander of Benoni K9 on the parade ground at her unit.

The provincial head of Rapid Response Services in Gauteng, Brigadier Samuel Killian, decorated 13 members of the Benoni K9 Unit with long service medals.

The ceremony was hosted by Lieutenant Colonel Estie Steyl, Commander of Benoni K9 on the parade ground at her unit.

Steyl handed Killian the medals as he pinned 30-year medals on Warrant Officers M Bann, J Strydom, WJ Giesing, M Bauer, NT Leotlela and TR Mabena.

Captain PJP Modise was the receiver of a 20-year medal while Sergeants J Kiewiet, ME Seshoka, R Seekoei, KS Maja and Constable M Manuel were pinned with 10-year medals.

Steyl was pinned with her 30-year medal.

Killian congratulated members and acknowledged the challenges members faced every day on the streets.

He said that this was a very special occasion and trusts that this event was a well-earned and deserved highlight of their careers.

He mentioned that giving your life to serve your communities is not always understood by them as what it entails.

With himself on the brink of retirement, he informed them that he would expect them to continue their exceptional service and thanked them for these duties.

He ended by wishing members well and saying that this is one of his last moments in the SAPS that he would cherish forever.

The parade concluded with Steyl thanking Killian and members for their participation.
