Recent increase in hijackings in parts of Ekurhuleni worry police

Police ask residents and motorists to be cautious in Phomolong and Rabie Ridge.

Police urged motorists to be vigilant following four hijacking reports in three days in Phomolong and Rabie Ridge.

A man was taken to the Tembisa Hospital following a hijacking in Phomolong on August 3.

“He was found by community members who alerted patrollers that a man was shot in Too-Touch Street in Phomolong,” said Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi

.Moremi said the officers found a man sitting in his white Toyota Corolla.

“He had been robbed of cash and had been shot. He was taken to the Itireleng Phomolong Clinic and later transported to Tembisa Hospital with an ambulance.”

Moremi said in another incident on August 4, at about 18:30, a white Ford Ranger with three occupants bumped into a white Mercedes Benz C200 along Republic Road.

“When the man stopped to see what was happening, one of the three men pointed a firearm at him and forced him back into his car. They drove off with the Ford Ranger following.

“They dropped the man off in Midrand,” said Moremi.

Moremi said the man was also robbed of his iPhone cellphone, cash and bank cards.

On August 5, a man was closing his home gate with his car still idling when two men approached him on OR Tambo Street in Klipfontein.

“One pointed a firearm at him, kicked the man who then fell to the floor while his accomplice got inside the complainant’s vehicle and reversed it.

“The one with a firearm closed the gate and locked it,” said Moremi.

Another incident was reported on the same day on Maputo Street in Klipfontein View Ext 3.

The driver’s vehicle was parked in front of his residential gate with the keys still in the ignition.

He left the car unattended to open the gate and as he was about to open it, a white Honda Ballade with three occupants stopped.

“The men jumped out of the car and threatened him with a firearm. They ordered him to lie down and started searching for him. They drove off in the complainant’s vehicle,” said Moremi.

Moremi said the victim identified one of the suspects carrying a firearm as light in complexion, slim, medium height and wearing white pants and a white jersey.
