His crossing broke the previous record of 08:30 held by Ryan Stramrood.

Following his accomplishment, Kyle holds two records – the youngest swimmer to complete a False Bay Crossing and the fastest solo male crossing from Millers Point to Rooi Els.

According to the Guinness World Record website, Kyle was the ninth person to complete the swim.

In March Kyle Stephens, a Grade 11 learner from Edenvale High School, completed the 33km across False Bay in 08:08:15.

The record was ratified by the Cape Long Distance Swimming Association.

Before Kyle, a Grade 11 learner at Edenvale High, could attempt the crossing, several prerequisites required by the Channel Swimming Association and Cape Long Distance Swimming Association needed to be met.

One of those was that Kyle had to be older than 16 years.
