Rundle said on June 21 he met on-site with a design engineer and surveyor to discuss the damage.

When the NEWS last reported on the matter in its June 8 edition Ward 19 councillor Bill Rundle said he was unable to provide new information as he had not received nothing new from the City of Ekurhuleni, however this is no longer the case.

The collapsed infrastructure located on the pavement of Aitken Road near the T-junction with Da Gama Avenue.

“The job is definitely on. The engineer and surveyor visited the site to look at the layout of the pipes,” said Rundle.

He said while they were at the damaged infrastructure design the engineer and surveyor spoke to residents, obtained background information and started their preparation work.

“I am very thankful that the two-year battle has yielded results.”

Since the deterioration of the infrastructure in February 2020, the NEWS has written numerous articles highlighting concerns from the affected residents, the greater community and Rundle.

Ward 19 Clr Bill Rundle at the location of the collapsed infrastructure at the end of May.

Rundle previously told the NEWS the collapse was caused by large volumes of storm water being diverted into the chamber from Greenstone into Edenvale.

Following the collapse of the chamber fibre lines, municipal infrastructure and storm water pipes meant to direct water into the attenuation chamber from Greenstone are all exposed.

Rundle said the chamber was initially installed to slow down the flow of water from Greenstone but could not cope with the volume of water and subsequently collapsed.

Because of the collapse, the chamber no longer works as designed to.

As a result, two properties located closest to the collapsed infrastructure are flooded during heavy rains.

At the time of going to print no comment was received.
