Murder accused Cornelius Stefan van Niekerk abandoned his bail application in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
As a result, van Niekerk was remanded in custody until his next court appearance set for July 19.

He stands accused of murder following the death of two-year-old Chevonne Rusch on May 11.
After his arrest on May 13, van Niekerk made his first appearance in court on May 16 where the case against him was postponed to May 25 for a formal bail application.
