Hospice East Rand bids Eileen farewell

Hospice East Rand paid tribute to Kempton resident Eileen Freed who died at the age of 104 years and eight months.

Marketing and media liaison officer for Hospice East Rand Jonquil Siepman said Eileen became a Hospice East Rand patient in 2018 due to heart failure. At this time she was 101.

“Eileen was Hospice’s oldest patient on record and an excellent reminder that signing up as a patient with Hospice East Rand doesn’t mean signing your death sentence,” said Jonquil.

Her daughter-in-law, Helen Freed, spoke fondly of all Hospice East Rand staff but specifically Sister Tracy Scholefield who cared for Eileen throughout her years with Hospice.

She acknowledged the amazing love and care Sr Tracy gave as well as her depth of knowledge and skills during her visits.

As an NPO, Hospice East Rand provides palliative care for individuals diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness.
