She said with the assistance the care centre will be able to keep its doors open for a while longer.

Care centre staff member Monica Thobejane echoed Marlene’s gratitude.

“The donations mean so much to us,” highlighted Monica.

Marlene said after the old gate motor died, she appealed to the community for assistance, and within three days, a new gate motor was donated on April 8.

“Receiving the new gate motor was the cherry on top for us,” said Marlene.

When the NEWS spoke to Marlene in January, she said the centre was anxiously waiting for payment from the Department of Health.

When the publication met with her and Monica on April 12, Marlene said they were still waiting for payment.

In light of this, Marlene and Monica appealed to the community to continue donating what they could to assist the care centre.

Marlene said any donated items the centre cannot use are sold on its Facebook page to generate additional income for the facility.

In an attempt to further reduce costs, Marlene said vegetables were planted in the property’s garden.

“We recently harvested 30km of tomatoes from our garden that also sports spinach and beetroot,” said Marlene.
