Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers adopt Dowerglen garden

Due to the rain, the garden had become overgrown and the Girl Guides came in force to combat the weeds.

On February 15, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers from 1st Bedfordview returned to their adopted flower bed at Karee Park in Dowerglen.

The aim was to do some much-needed maintenance of the flowerbed.

Dowerglen resident Ray Hogg, who had worked hard to keep the park clean and tidy, contacted Karen Jones, the adult leader for the 1st Bedfordview Brownie Pack, 1st Bedfordview Guide Company and Nomad Ranger Crew in 2020, to see if the girls would like to adopt a garden in the park.

The challenge was taken up by the Edenvale and Bedfordview units.

The aim was do some much-needed maintenance of the flowerbed.

All that’s now needed for the garden to thrive is TLC.

The girls plan to do just that and want to turn their little piece of Dowerglen into a magical place.

The Brownies, Guides and Rangers all belong to one of the world’s largest international youth movements, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and they welcome new members.

Being a member offers opportunities for widening horizons, learning new skills and making new friends.

Girls aged six to 10 are welcome to join in the fun, friendship and learning of life skills from 15:30 to 17:00 on Tuesdays.

Girls aged between 10 and 18 can apply to join Brownies, Guides or the Rangers, depending on their age.
