Flying squad nabs six suspects

Five suspects were arrested in Isandovale when they were found to be in possession of more than $20 000 (R300 000) in counterfeit notes.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad arrested the suspects on February 21 after the unit received information about the suspects.

Benoni Flying Squad’s communications officer W/O Grant Giblin said, “Officers responded to a tip-off regarding suspicious behaviour in a room at an Isandovale hotel.

“Upon arrival, officers were shown foil-wrapped black paper, cut into the sizes of one hundred rand notes.”

He said the flying squad members were led to the room where the activity was allegedly happening.

“Inside the room, members found five suspects with two black bags containing counterfeit notes and a big travel bag with more of the black paper ready to be washed to produce notes,” said Giblin.

The five suspects arrested in Isandovale face charges of possession of and manufacturing counterfeit money.

He said the suspects were arrested and the notes were confiscated.

On the same day in Thembisa, members of the squad followed up on information regarding suspicious activity near the corner of Brian Mazibuko and Seagull streets.

Giblin said after following up on the information, members of the squad arrested one suspect for the possession of heroin and cocaine.

Giblin said the five suspects arrested in Isandovale face charges of possession of and manufacturing counterfeit money while the suspect arrested in Thembisa faces charges of dealing in drugs.
