Sebenza SAPS to focus on hijackings and robberies

“A massive deployment of men and women in blue in Sebenza Police Station’s precinct are working tirelessly to ensure that these violent crimes end.”

Hoping to reduce the number of hijackings and robberies in its policing precinct, Sebenza SAPS appealed to motorists to remain vigilant at all times.

Sebenza Police Station’s communications officer Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said, “Sebenza SAPS has noted with great concern the increased number of hijacking and robbery cases reported.”

She said besides requesting road users to remain vigilant, Sebenza Police Station has a plan to try to curb the crimes.

“A massive deployment of men and women in blue in Sebenza Police Station’s precinct are working tirelessly to ensure that these violent crimes end,” said Tsotsotso.

Community members are encouraged to use the following tips to prevent hijackings:
• Before pulling into your driveway, check if there is a car following you
• Don’t stop in secluded areas
• Don’t pick up hitchhikers
• Always be vigilant when driving
• If you suspect you are being followed, drive to your nearest police station or phone 10111
• Increase vigilance at intersections

Community members are encouraged to use the following tips to prevent robberies:
• Don’t keep large sums of money on business premises
• Do not display money in public
• Do not ask for or accept help from strangers at ATMs
• Don’t operate businesses until unusually late hours
