Spokesperson for the station Sgt Lillian Modiga said one of the biggest contributors to crime is incidents that can be avoided.

“Street robberies remain a problem. Residents who walk through the streets while talking on their cellphones are easy targets for opportunistic criminals driving around.”

She advised that residents rather keep their phones out of sight when walking in the streets.

“Deal with phone calls and messages when you get to your destination rather than flashing devices for everyone to see.”

Similarly, she advised motorists to not keep valuables in plain sight inside their vehicles.

“When driving, make sure valuable items, such as laptops and handbags, are placed in your car’s boot.

“When parking at businesses, shopping malls and restaurants, make sure any valuable items you might leave behind are placed where they cannot be seen from outside,” Modiga said.
