Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) introduces the GR GT3 concept

Promoting “driver first” car development and with a desire to provide attractive cars for customers participating in GT3 (which is the pinnacle of customer motorsports). As was the case with the GR Yaris, by commercialising motorsports cars rather than simply adapting production vehicles for use in motorsports, TGR intends to use feedback and technologies refined through participation in various motorsports activities to develop both GT3 and mass-production cars and further promote making ever-better motorsports-bred cars. GRMN Yaris Following on the resounding global success of the GR Yaris, Toyota has pulled the covers off an even ‘hotter’ version; the GRMN. GRMN models represent the top tier in the Gazoo Racing pyramid and embodies the ‘total tuning concept’. Since its launch, the GR Yaris has been involved in various motorsports, such as the Super Taikyu Series where President Toyoda got behind the wheel as Morizo and participated with ROOKIE Racing, and the Japanese Rally Championship*5, where it won the season championship. The development of the GRMN Yaris began from Morizo’s desire to “deliver cars to customers that evolve quickly and can be tailored to individuals like in the field of motorsports.” Using lessons learned from motorsports competition, body rigidity has been enhanced, weight has been reduced, overall width has been increased for aerodynamic improvement, while vehicle height has been reduced by 10mm for a lower centre of gravity. The GR Yaris has evolved into a car that can be driven faster and with more peace of mind, with improved braking force, grip, cornering and acceleration, based on feedback from professional drivers. GRMN Vehicle Outline “The GRMN Yaris features a close-ratio gear transmission and a low final gear set that has been refined in the field of motorsports. For gear ratios, close-ratio 1st to 4th gears make efficient use of the engine power band, and low final gears for optimized driving force have been combined. To improve reliability during endurance races and other situations, SNCM material was used and shot processing was added to 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and final gears, significantly improving shock torque and fatigue strength,” says TGR. Added to this the GR Yaris boasts a reinforced metal-matrix clutch that has also been incorporated. Increased rear track width (+5mm) improves grip, while a 10mm width increase boosts aerodynamic performance. Engine power remains at 200kW (Japanese specification), with torque boosted by 20Nm to 390Nm.
