Murder case postponed for third time

The bail application was postponed, for the final time, to allow the investigating officer to verify the latest address provided.

The case of the man accused of murdering Edenvale resident Patricia Cockerell was postponed to January 26 to allow for the verification of a final address.

The 49-year-old accused of murder and defeating the ends of justice made his third appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on January 19.

The bail application was postponed for the final time, to allow the investigating officer to verify the latest address provided. In light of the postponement. The accused will remain in custody.

Edenvale Police Station communications officer Sgt Jacob Mashile previously told the NEWS Cockerell’s body was found on January 3 at an Edenvale bed and breakfast by an Edenvale SAPS detective following up on Cockerell’s missing person case.

She was reported missing on January 2.

Mashile said the 58-year-old was stabbed numerous times, and that the suspect was arrested on January 3 in Boksburg and taken to Edenvale Police Station for processing.

On January 5, the accused made his first appearance in court, where community members stood united, holding signs, placards and posters calling for an end to gender-based violence.
