Tourists have certainly not been taken into consideration.

They may be in possession of brochures that will reflect the wrong street, building or airport names in whichever province that has undergone name changes, the Eastern Cape is a good example.

Port Elizabeth is sure to suffer from its new name, Gqeberha, which half the population cannot pronounce correctly, never mind tourists.

Probably short-minded government officials trying to deflect attention from themselves about the non-delivery of essential services because they are not qualified to be in the positions they occupy.

Sadly, a very common situation throughout our beautiful country.

Name changes to come with cost implications which probably have not been taken into consideration by officials who live in their little bubble of ignorance.
