While slides and film were the original media, digital and more recently cellphone photography has continued to inspire many amateurs and hobbyists.

Like last year, Covid-19 once again affected the club’s ability to host live meetings, and subsequently, Zoom meetings remained in place for most of the season.

This made it challenging for members to benefit from social interactions, workshops and outings.

Despite this setback, the club continued to grow and upskill members in all aspects of photography as best as it was possible to do so virtually.

Each year the club hosts an annual competition whereby members are divided into their star categories.

The categories include beginner, intermediate (one-three stars) and senior/open (four-six star ratings).

Once divided, the members enter their imagery into 10 categories that range from nature, portraiture, landscapes, monochrome and others.

This year the competition was judged externally by three accomplished photography judges.

Although the pandemic affected the club’s meetings, the easing of Covid-19 restrictions meant the club could host an awards ceremony at FotoZA in Rosebank on November 17.

Winners included:
• One – two stars category: Versatility winner was Fabiola Geeven with Tony Wilson as the runner-up.
• Three to four stars category: Versatility winner was Stephen Kangisser with Brian Kleinwort as the runner-up.
• Five – six stars category: Open versatility winner was Natasha Bird with Gary Peck as the runner-up.

Throughout the year, each club member’s cumulative scores are added up, irrespective of their star rating. This year’s overall winner was Natasha Bird with Dino Bottega being the runner-up.

Natasha was also the winner of the 2021 Set Subject category, while Hanli Smit was runner up.
