Oldies vs youngsters as Panthers face Tendella

“We wanted to bring all the payers together,” Enslin said.

In a day branded as the good, the bad and the ugly, Edenvale’s Panthers Rugby Club took on the Tendella Golden Oldies on October 23.

According to Ernie Enslin from Panther’s Club, the game was played to bring all players together and pit the talents of the young guns against the expertise of the golden oldies from the club.

“We wanted to bring all the payers together,” Enslin said.

While the oldies led the game in the beginning, the youngsters soon caught up and the match finished in a draw, with each side scoring four tries.

“When we started, the oldies drove the advantage but as the game progressed, the younger team fought back.”

He added that through the game, the club achieved its goal to boost player morale.

“The atmosphere in the stands and on the field was amazing. It was great to see such comradery on the field,” Enslin said.

“The game built better friendships on and off the field.”

He encouraged residents who are interested in playing rugby to consider joining the Panthers in 2022 when the next season kicks off.

From next year, the club will welcome players from the age of six.
