ANC’s candidate responded as follows:

Ward 18 Realeboha Mofolo:

“Ward 18 is experiencing challenges with pothole and water leaks repairs, as well as a lack of, or selectively limited engagement with the ward councillor.

“At roughly 30% of the unemployment rate, especially that of young people in our ward, is still unacceptably high. There is evidence that this high unemployment rate has contributed to other related social ills, like drug abuse, violent crime, and increasing homelessness.

“My approach to addressing unemployment in our ward and the associated social drags is integrated development and will be in line with both the City of Ekurhuleni’s Growth and Development Strategy (GDS 2055) and the 10 Point Economic Plan which is derived from the GDS 2055.

“In this regard, I will focus on providing a conducive environment for young people to be the key drivers of economic development by ensuring they receive adequate technical and financial support to tap into the digital economy.

“My immediate priority will be to ensure the integration of waste pickers, which are playing a very vital role in our environment, in the municipal waste management strategy.

“I also intend to reintroduce the business forum to not only address challenges faced by the business community but also provide ongoing and constant input and feedback on our effort to fight youth unemployment in our ward.”
