Hurlyvale Primary goes green

On September 4 the school officially switched over to solar energy as it unveiled the implementation of its efforts in partnership with Power4Less.

With the installation of two 5 500-litre water tanks and 150 solar panels, Hurlyvale Primary School (HPS) is on a mission to become as environmentally friendly as possible.

On September 4 the school officially switched over to solar energy as it unveiled the implementation of its efforts in partnership with Power4Less.

Principal Dee Schoultz explained the project was something the school had planned to do for some time.

The school will no longer rely on municipal water and is instead pumping water from a borehole filtered through a filtration system and pumped into the two tanks.

Similarly, the 150 solar panels will generate power for the school.

“We are very excited about the project,” said Schoultz.

At the unveiling were representatives of the school, its governing body, Power4Less and members of the Department of Education.
