Little Eden goes virtual for 53rd AGM

The commitment and dedication displayed by the society’s team played a fundamental role in the decisions undertaken for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Former Little Eden Society CEO Lucy Slaviero and Rev Antony Bishop were presented with the society’s highest form of recognition at Little Eden’s 53rd AGM.

Slaviero and Bishop were presented with the Danny and Domitilla Hyams Award, in recognition of their support to Little Eden.

Slaviero received the award for her service to the society as CEO for 22 years while Bishop received his for his service to the organisation as a member of the board of governors for 40 years.

Rev Doug Boake, the chairperson of the society’s board of governors, spoke at the AGM about the impact of Covid-19 in SA, and the impact it had on the society.

He thanked donors who continued to display acts of generosity despite the tumultuous time and highlighted the ways the society had explored various ways of survival.

“Despite the prevailing uncertainty in the country, Little Eden was blessed and weathered the financial problems due to the timely action of fiscal discipline, stringent review of operating costs, seeing how funds can be stretched and looking at new ways of fundraising,” said Boake.

Xelda Rohrbeck, the CEO of Little Eden Society, said the past year was challenging due to the pandemic.

She said the commitment and dedication displayed by the society’s team played a fundamental role in the decisions undertaken for the benefit of all stakeholders.

“Over a year later, the various protocols, policies and procedures have become part of daily life at Little Eden,” said Rohrbeck.

She commended the team for having adapted and remaining resilient.

“One thing that has remained and continues to remain our guiding strength, filling us with hope, is the presence of a strong Ethos, underpinned by divine providence.”

During the AGM a moment of silence was observed to acknowledge the recent death of Giuliano Rota Matir, the president of the ONLUS.

The election of the board of governors for the ensuing year saw the meeting welcomed Dr Matthew Street to the Board.

Boake, Maurizio Galimberti (vice-chairperson) and Sedzani Mudau (treasurer) will remain in their positions as office bearers.
