Charity shop in need of donations

“We are grateful for your thoughtfulness, especially during these challenging times.”

Over the past 54 years, Little Eden Society has provided love, care, dignity and respect for each child and adult who has passed through its doors.

It has been able to do so with the assistance of the community.

Through donations directly to the home and to the society’s charity shop, the organisation continues to provide quality care with lasting impact to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Little Eden cares for 300 children and adults with profound intellectual disability. The majority of the residents at the two homes were abandoned, while some come from indigent families who are not able to support them financially.

Approximately 45% of the society’s funds come from the government and the shortfall of 55% is raised through various fund-raising activities, including the operation of the charity shop located in Edenvale.

The Little Eden Charity Shop, located at De’ Sun Place, 33 8th Avenue, Edenvale, is running low on stock and needs donations.

Little Eden Society appealed to the community for assistance and donations of second-hand clothing of all sizes, kitchenware, books, toys, linen, furniture, small appliances and bric-a-brac.

Residents planning to clear out their home are asked to consider donating unwanted items in a good condition to the shop.

Alternatively, items can be dropped off at Domitilla and Danny Hyams Home at 79 Wagenaar Road, Edenglen.

All proceeds from the charity shop go directly towards providing quality care for our residents.

Shop operating hours are as follows Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 16:00, Saturday from 08:30 to 12:30 and on Sundays and public holidays the shop is closed. For more information, call 060 586 1856.

Proceeds made from selling the donations not only provide a home for the residents but ensure they receive medical care, receives nutritional meals and allow them to get the therapy and stimulation which they need to reach their full potential.

“We are grateful for your thoughtfulness, especially during these challenging times,” said the public relations and communications coordinator of Little Eden Society, Rethabile Lechela.
