Khanyisa provides 13 800 takeaway meals with your help

Despite being closed for two and a half months during 2020, Khanyisa provided nearly 14 000 takeaway meals throughout the year.

Deon Gerber, chairperson of the Khanyisa Trust, thanked community members and businesses on behalf of the trust for their continued support throughout the year.

The trust held its AGM on May 16.

“All of us have been affected by the pandemic,” he said.

“The response to our appeals for support exceeded our expectations.”

Over and above acknowledging the commitment of staff, volunteers, businesses, donor churches, trustees and executive committee, Deon thanked them and the public for their tenacity and spirit to help the disadvantaged.

In his report, Deon said, “2020 showed that the capacity to care and to give generously in times of great uncertainty is a human trait that must never be underestimated.

“We as the Khanyisa Trust and by extension, our beneficiaries have witnessed time and time again this generosity through the ongoing support of our donor churches, service organisations, local businesses and individuals.

“For this, we are grateful and are blessed by the people that support us and without whom the Trust could not function. Contributions in time, kind and money helped the Trust sustain the support to the needy of Edenvale.

“The Trust has used its resources to extend outreach to other local organisations struggling in these difficult times. Despite being closed for two and a half months during 2020, Khanyisa provided 13 800 takeaway meals throughout the year.”

Deon highlighted that donations from donors and the hard work of the staff enabled maintenance to be carried out.

He also pointed out that the NPO’s sewing school continues, however, with fewer students. Deon said they continue to look for sewing projects to support the school

“Despite the difficulties experienced, and with the support of our generous donors, Khanyisa remains financially sound, has a solid foundation and can continue giving much-needed support to the poor in our community.”

The existing executive committee members were asked if they would continue to act in their current roles for the next financial year, all accepted.
