MMC calls on residents to use social services

Residents can visit any social worker’s office at their customer care centre. After their interview with a social worker, they will be linked to the relevant packages based on their needs.

The MMC for health and social services in Ekurhuleni, Clr Nomadlozi Nkosi, called on residents to reach out and enquire about the social work packages available to aid the vulnerable members of the community.

“The city has a fully functional social services package that includes a poverty alleviation and indigent programme,” said Nkosi.

Some of the available social services to aid residents include:

• Referral of qualifying clients to the indigent management programme to access free electricity, water and municipal services for social relief.
• Food Security Programme through the Food Bank and Homestead Garden Project.
• Facilitation of applications for Grant-in-Aid funding to uplift and develop co-operatives and NPOs.
