Saheti learners take on MUN

A MUN conference is an academic simulation of the United Nations, where learners play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned countries.

A group of Saheti High School learners recently participated in the online Model United Nations Conference (MUN) held at the American College of Greece, Athens. Hundreds of learners from schools all over Greece and India participated in the conference.

A MUN conference is an academic simulation of the United Nations, where learners play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned countries.

They learn about current affairs, diplomacy and international relations. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including in the UN itself, took part in MUN conferences as school learners. Participation in a MUN provides learners with invaluable leadership experiences.

The best-performing delegates in each committee were recognised with awards. Saheti School Grade 10 learner Matthias Lazarides was the recipient of an Honourable Mention Award in the Environmental Commission.

As a first-time MUN participant, this accolade is a notable accomplishment for Matthias and was also instrumental in getting Saheti acknowledged in an international MUN setting.

The experience left Saheti’s participants ready to tackle another MUN conference, hopefully on site next time.
