Seventeen-year-old Lekisha Munro died on November 6 in ICU after the vehicle she was travelling was involved in a single-vehicle collision on November 5.

An Illiondale family was left shaken to its core after a vehicle collision claimed the life of their daughter and sister.

Seventeen-year-old Lekisha Munro died on November 6 in ICU after the vehicle she was travelling was involved in a single-vehicle collision on November 5.

The collision occurred on Andries Pretorius Road at approximately 11pm.

“Lekisha was so free-spirited. If something couldn’t be done, she would make sure she would do it,” said her father Richard.

“She would do anything to achieve her goals but would never trample on others to reach her dreams.”

Richard explained that when his daughter met a new person, Lekisha would try her best to make that person feel important.

“She would make you feel like her best friend, she had a heart of gold and was extremely caring.”

Family friend Jared Hein said Lekisha was the most giving person anyone would’ve met in their life.

Her mother, Sue, said Lekisa’s death was extremely difficult for the family.

She said the family was very close and would often spend time together going on family holidays or at home.

Richard said if the family went away on holiday a pool was a priority.

“Lekisha loved the water and the sea. It would be freezing outside but she would be in the water enjoying herself,” said Sue.

“There was one time when the water was freezing and her brother Marco had gotten out of the water and she was begging him to swim with her.”

Lekisha was cremated and her ashes scattered in Durban last week.

“Marco and Lekisha were like two peas in a pod.”

Sue said the events of November 5 keep playing in her mind.

“There are just certain images I just can’t get out of my head.”

Sue told the NEWS that while Lekisha was at the hospital the family was able to spend some time with her.

“Marco went to Lekisha and he spoke to her, telling her that she couldn’t leave him so soon. When he said this a tear rolled down Lekisha’s cheek,” said Sue.

“It’s almost as if she was trying to say I’m trying Marco, I’m trying my brother.”

Marco said one of the most special memories he has of his sister is when she helped set up his 18th birthday.

He said she put everything together perfectly for the party like it had been done by a professional party planner.

“Another great memory was during the lockdown. I was DJing and Lekisha came to DJ with me. While we were having fun, she suggested that our stage name should be mac and cheese,” said Marco.

“She was the best sister that a brother could have asked for.”

Although the NEWS has found the names of the other two victims of the collision on social media it is waiting for confirmation from the authorities.
