He said school representatives and community stakeholders discussed the way forward and what the school and the governing body was doing about the matter.
“Information we received so far indicates the fight was caused by one learner owing another learner money,” said Lesufi.
He said teachers intervened and brought the victims back to the school and contacted parents.
“Although some of those involved in the fight were not learners of Edenglen High, most of them were Edenglen learners which is why I am at the school today,” said Lesufi.
He called upon the school’s governing body (SGB) and the Edenvale SAPS to investigate. Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubela said a case was opened following the incident and police are investigating an assault case.
Chairperson of the SGB Graeme Stratton said the school did not condone the behaviour of the learners and was disappointed by such actions.
“The school will follow the necessary due processes that is in place and work according to the rules of the school’s code of conduct.”
According to Stratton, the altercation occurred approximately a kilometre away from the high school’s premises.
