Edenvale SAPS urged community members to remain vigilant and alert after several cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances were opened at the station.

Edenvale Police Station spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said cases were reported throughout August.

He described the crime as a robbery committed by a suspect armed with a weapon of any kind.

“These crimes, which are occurring across Edenvale, are a concern for the station. We are monitoring the situation and are formulating strategies to combat the crime. We have partnered with private security companies, the Edenvale CPF and other community stakeholders to fight this crime on a united front.”

Mashile said the station will increase the number of patrols, stop-and-searches and roadblocks to assist in fighting this crime.

“Most of these crimes are crimes of opportunity. The criminals will drive around Edenvale and target a victim they think they can rob.

“Often these criminals will not have a specific target in mind before committing the crime.”
