Up-and-coming artist and Edenvale resident Gift ‘Day Day’ Tshabalala is on a mission to make a name for himself and break into the music industry as a hip-hop artist. Originally from KwaZulu-Natal, the CBD resident moved to Edenvale with his family in 2017.

Although he did no participate in any musical activities as a child, Gift said he was always drawn to music and would purchase CDs whenever he could.

At the age of 15, Gift decided to take his passion more seriously. As a teenager, he and his friends would often host cyphers and battle one another to determine who was producing better lyrics.

“Rapping with and against my friends in high school gave me more confidence to follow my dreams.”

After leaving high school, Gift started working on his extended-play (EP) album, which has six tracks on it.

“My music is often inspired by my life events or personal experiences,” said Gift.

“Although I mainly focus on hip-hop, I try to include other genres in my songs.”

Gift believes his music will appeal to the younger generation.

“As a youngster, I sing about issues I am dealing with and situations I find myself in, so my music will definitely appeal to young adults.

“I want to inspire my fans with my music. I want to encourage them and show them it is possible to achieve their dreams.”

At the moment, Gift is looking to establish connections with a recording studio and other artists so he can start creating his brand.

Looking to the future, Gift hopes to make a name for himself nationally and internationally.

“Once I have my record label, I want to guide and mentor other young artists and allow them to fulfil their dreams.”
