Persistent sewer problems to be monitored by municipality

According to ward councillor Jill Humphreys, two of the biggest issues in the area are potholes and blocked sewage lines.

An issue which had plagued her inbox was the failure of essential infrastructure in the area that had adversely affected business.She took the NEWS to an ongoing sewerage leak outside a service station on Boeing Road East. Humphreys suspects the cause of it was either a severely clogged or even collapsed pipeline.

In response to an enquiry sent by the NEWS, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Themba Gadebe said the department cleared a number of sewer blockages at the location.

“The department will investigate the cause of these blockages.” He said in addition, the location of the leak will be added to the department’s hot-spot list. This means the area will receive weekly visits and be monitored for possible sewer blockages.
