Freemasons give back to care centre

The group decided to get involved after reading the appeal for help in the News.

After reading an article about the late sister Leigh appealing for assistance, the Freemasons recently came to the help of Edenvale Care Centre Hospice.

The Order of the Royal and Select Masters of England and Wales District of SA assisted the centre by installing and connecting a rainwater collection system to the centre’s gutters.

Worth an approximate R20 000, the catchment system hopes to reduce to the centre’s water costs in the future. Marlene Hooper of the centre said is delighted with the support.

Avenues resident and district Grand Master Paul Knight said the group decided to get involved after reading the appeal for help in the News.

“I phoned the centre and was sent a wish list. Following a discussion we decided a catchment system would be a good addition to the centre.” Paul explained that when the Freemasons assist an organisation the preferred method of helping is through projects instead of donating funds.

He said before anything is done an in-depth study of the organisation’s accounts are done to ensure there is no mismanagement.
