The journey continues for Edenvale artist

Finding his passion for music in high school, the 24-year-old became somewhat of a school celebrity when he wrote and rapped a song.

Edenvale-based music artist Katleho “Kay Tee” Moabi is on a mission to make a name for himself as an artist and help establish greater understanding between parents and children.

Originally from the North West town of Klerksdorp, Katleho made his way to Edenvale in February.

He has 18 released tracks.

Finding his passion for music in high school, the 24-year-old became somewhat of a school celebrity when he wrote and rapped a song.

“The school just loved it and it took off from there.”

By 2018 Katleho had made his way to Gauteng and was starting to make a name for himself with Galaxy Records, a record label which made its way to the top of the list in the Soweto area.

Although he enjoys making songs in various genres Katleho identified hip-hop as his top genre.

His music always contains elements of street or “strata” (Setswana ) music from the North West paying homage to his roots.

“I’ll sing songs in any genres just as long as my message gets out there.”

His songs often discuss topics of hustling and working hard and doing whatever it takes to get life off the ground.

Written from his own experiences and those he identifies in society urging society to wake up.

Katleho highlighted that people who would benefit the most from listening to are parents.

“From my own experiences, I know that children often go through a lot without parents knowing anything about it.

“I want parents to understand that sometimes things are not all right and the worst thing to happen is not the child being lazy.”

Katleho said it can be difficult to be open and honest to some black parents.

“In SA, in general, typical black families are conservative and strict so children often tell parents what is going on.”

In recent weeks Katleho is set to work on a track which will feature artists from Nigeria and the USA.

“Slowly my fan base is growing. The feedback I receive about my music is positive.

“Because I have moved around a lot I have fans in a lot of places, who help me share my music by playing for their friends.

“At the end of the day, I just want people to see that it is possible to change, fulfil your dreams and give them hope.”
