RRW Edenvale supportive of virtual Comrades

Almost 50 runners from Rand Road Warriors Edenvale took to the streets when they were given the opportunity to compete in this years Comrades Marathon.

The 2020 marathon was most probably one of the most unconventional Comrades with the effect of Covid-19 and lockdown regulations taking their toll.

Under normal circumstances the ultramarathon sees athletes from SA and around the world run the approximate 89km between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

However, this year, with 43 788 entrants from 103 countries, organisers had to think out of the box and so the Comrades Race The Legends, a virtual marathon, was born.

The virtual marathon held on June 14 gave runners the opportunity to run, 5, 10, 21.1, 45 and 90km.

After they uploaded their routes and race organisers approved runners they were provided with their medals.

Founder and treasurer of Rand Road Warriors Edenvale Vernon Cloete said members of the Edenvale Club were supportive of the idea.

Most of the club’s runners ran the 21.1km distance while a group of five runners ran the 90km and 45km respectively.
