Covid-19: 1.2-million tests conducted as 44 331 recover

South Africa has a virus recovery rate of 55.1 per cent.

South Africa has recorded 49 more coronavirus fatalities to push the death toll to 1 674.

Covid-19 mortality rate in South Africa remains at 2.1 per cent.

The total number of Covid-19 recoveries in South Africa, to date, stands at 44 331 which also means that South Africa has a virus recovery rate of 55.1 per cent.

There are 34 407 active cases in the country. A total of 4 078 new cases were recorded by June 17 with the national total surpassing the 80 000 mark to reach 80 412.

The Western Cape total case number as at June 17 stands at 46 555 with 31 824 recoveries.

The total number of recorded cases in Gauteng stands at 14 620 with 3 7 16 recoveries.

The Eastern Cape has recorded a total of 11 919 coronavirus cases as well as 5 845 recoveries.

The total number of cases in Kwa-Zulu Natal stands at 4 238 and recoveries for the province stands at 2 133.

North West has recorded a total of 1 402 positive cases as well as 175 recoveries

The total number of tests conducted stands at 1 200 736. Of these 28 202 tests were conducted in the 24 hours between June 16 and June 17.

The private sector has conducted 15 782 new tests to bring the total number of tests conducted to 582 957.

The public sector has conducted a total of 617 779 tests, 15 782 of which are new.
