LIVE NOW: Health experts on level 3 and what lies ahead

“It's not just what doctors and nurses will do, it's what society will do.”

Fifty per cent of Covid-19 related deaths in South Africa were recorded in the past two weeks.

This was announced by Minister of Health Dr Zwelini Mkhize, this evening, as he is joined by other health leaders in presenting the health interventions ahead of the country’s move to alert level three on June 1

“It is now a social issue.

“It’s not just what doctors and nurses will do, it’s what society will do,” said Mkhize

“Our infection rose from imported cases and we had to impose a lockdown immediately.

“Now other issues have arisen, and we need to consider these important issues as we move to a new reality.

“There are many reasons for flattening the curve early.

“It buys us time to better prepare and equip our facilities for an influx of Covid-19 cases.”

Mkhize said as the country prepares for Grade 12 and Seven learners to return to school, learners must remain at home if they have signs of flu.

“If you go to church, keep your distance.

“The reality is Covid-19 is going to be with us for a year or two, or more and, therefore, we need to adjust to a new reality.”
