Masked Angels hope to help others

The group, comprised of volunteers, hopes to provide masks to those who don't have access to any.

With the hopes of helping the less fortunate, five Edenvale women are doing their part to help make face masks.

Dowerglen resident Lyn Cocking, an organiser of the group, said she and the four other women are part of the Masked Angels.

The group, comprised of volunteers, hopes to provide masks to those who don’t have access to any.

Lyn explained she joined the group after receiving a WhatsApp asking for volunteers.

The Edenvale group has made over 1 000 masks since mid-April.

Members include Lyn, Maggie Tyrrell, Linda Hall, Grace Mestriner and Sharron Coking.

They have donated masks to the Edenvale Care Centre Hospice and hopes to donate masks to the KaraCARES and NEWS feeding programme.

The masks are made from three sheets of washable precut material and elastics.

“To collect the material I travel to a petrol station where I meet Sumaiya, an organiser of the group. We practice social distancing and while Sumaiya gives me more material I give her completed masks.”

Lyn who has some experience with a sewing machine said before joining the group she hasn’t sewn anything in years.

“While we were stuck in our home during Level 5 it allowed me to keep myself busy. Besides keeping busy it also feels good to help other people.”

Lyn highlighted that the Edenvale group members share a similar mindset and enjoy helping others.
