A security escort and delivery vehicle transporting cellular phones to different malls was ambushed near the R24 Concorde Road off-ramp at around 8am this morning resulting in a shoot-out between suspects and security officers.

Bedfordview Police Station’s communications officer Captain André de Jager said one security officer was injured in the shoot-out.
“The other officer returned fire but the suspects managed to overpower the security officers and fled in the vehicle containing the cellphones.”
De Jager said the injured officer was transported to Life Bedford Gardens Hospital in a stable condition.
“The delivery vehicle was recovered in Bruma not long after the robbery.

“The merchandise had already been offloaded and suspects had fled with the goods. No arrests have been made,” said de Jager.
