Armed robbery a concern for SAPS

"The victims, who are usually walking to and from shops, are robbed of foods and any valuables they have on them,"

In recent weeks, Edenvale SAPS has seen an increase in the number of armed robberies occurring in the precinct.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the suspects, armed with firearms, are robbing community members between 12 noon and 6pm.

“The victims, who are usually walking to and from shops, are robbed of foods and any valuables they have on them,” said Mashile.

He said Edenvale SAPS is investigating several cases and appealed to the community for any information which could assist the investigations.

Sector two of Edenvale’s precinct includes Eastleigh, Illiondale, De Klerk?s Hof and part of the Avenues from Hendrik Potgieter Street to Aitken Road.

Mashile advised community members to try to make use of vehicles or e-hailing services and try to limit the times they leave the house.

Besides investigating the armed robbery cases, Edenvale officers recently made arrests for shoplifting, reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mashile said it was unknown whether the suspect had bought the alcohol during the lockdown or if it was consumed at home.

Community members who witness any crime or know any information related to criminal activity must call 10111, 08600 10111, or Edenvale Police Station on 011 553 8600.
