Parenting in the time of Covid-19 and lockdown
Here is how you can achieve a positive relationship with your child during confinement. We also provide you with helpful links to study material from the Department of Basic Education.
You cannot go to work. Schools are closed and parents’ worries about finances increase.
Many are left with an overwhelming feeling of anxiety.
Most parents also had to step up to the plate and assist their children with schoolwork as schools had to introduce remote online learning, mostly via free online learning tools.
Since President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that lockdown will be extended some schools also took the decision to introduce learners to new curriculum via remote online learning.

Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS and Caxton stepped up to help parents with schoolwork and published a video series in which Johannesburg-based education expert, Ponnie Moodley, introduced our online audiences to proactive steps and tips to help parents guide their children through schoolwork at home.

To help parents interact constructively with their children during this time of confinement, the World Health Organisation also released a series of tips to help with parenting in the time of Covid-19.
These steps will guide parents to achieve one-on-one time, staying positive, creating a daily routine, avoiding bad behaviour, managing stress and talking about Covid-19.
