Covid-19 – Proud of law enforcement’s hard work

The safety officials have been handing out gloves, masks and sanitiser to several police stations such as Tembisa SAPS, Ivory Park SAPS, Sebenza SAPS, Kempton Park SAPS and others.

“I am proud to see the hard work of SAPS during this difficult time,” said Lena Ribeiro who was selected to assist the police and South African National Defense Force (SANDF) with the enforcement of lockdown, on April 5.

Ribeiro is the vice-chairperson of Modderfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Sebenza’s CPF public relations officer (PRO).

She has been working alongside Andrew Mosesi, Sebenza’s CPF Cluster chairperson and the Community Police Relations (CPR) Representative of the Department of Community Safety during lockdown.

They have also been patrolling with the police and the SANDF and they have done oversight visits to various police stations.

“It has been an honour to work alongside Andrew who is a professional and a hard worker. He is dedicated to the well-being of our country,” said Ribeiro.

Some of her highlights was educating community members about Covid-19.

“Informing the community on how serious the Covid-19 virus is was a highlight for me because it is important for individuals to understand the severity of this virus and to take precautions to avoid further spread.”

Lena said the lows of their work was seeing people not taking the pandemic seriously.

“I saw many people who left their homes with children and they were unprotected. Other people in the shopping centres were shopping for unnecessary goods.”

She said it has been wonderful working with the police and SANDF.

“Our interaction with the soldiers has been professional and friendly.”

Ribeiro’s message to the public is to stay indoors and to protect each other.
