Free counselling services offered to those affected in Malvern

Malvern's Crime Sector Forum Three offers counselling to those affected by the recent unrest in the area.

Crime Sector Forum Three (Malvern) hosted a public meeting on September 14 and with it, dedicated a moment of silence to those affected by the recent unrest in the area.

In light of this, Supt Sharon Barnard of the JMPD gave a report which included assuring the attendees that there was still a coordinated approach being held at the Cleveland SAPS to maintain peace in the area.

Barnard said about 30 police officers will be on patrol throughout the area, at any given time, while conducting regular stop-and-search operations.

The forum will be working with the other Cleveland CPF sectors to establish a strong Victim Empowerment Centre.

Liesel Hornby, who handles the forum’s Victim Support Portfolio, shared that the empowerment centre at Cleveland SAPS had been re-opened to the public during the day from September 16.

“With more volunteers on board, we aim to have the centre open 24 hours a day in future. If anyone in the community feel they need some trauma counselling and support in processing the events of the last few weeks, there is a free counselling service available for the Malvern community,” said Hornby.

In addition, the meeting saw the adoption of a new constitution.

“Thank you to JMPD, SAPS and the forum for working together to protect some of the businesses during the past two weeks,” commented the forum’s public relations officer, Wilton Cele, adding: “We need to implement our street patroller programme to help with monitoring the situation and keeping our community safe.”
