Empowering and developing the youth at radio station based at Park Meadows

They will be taught the technical aspects of radio, presentation skills and how to gather news and traffic at the station’s studio at Park Meadows Shopping Centre.

With the hopes of developing skills among the youth, Eden Radio is calling upon people between the age of 20 to 30 years old to join its team.

“With the start of the new year we are launching a new initiative which will see new life brought into the station,” said Roarke Lessing, the station’s manager.

“We are looking to give youth from the community an opportunity to empower themselves and give them a taste of radio.”

People which Roarke hopes to attract to the team should be passionate about radio, have a strong interest in the community and SA artists.

Those who join the team will have to design their own show which will include some speaking and playing good music.

They will be taught the technical aspects of radio, presentation skills and how to gather news and traffic at the station’s studio at Park Meadows Shopping Centre.

“This opportunity is not only for those interested in a career in radio but also those interested in speaking publicly,” said Roarke.

“Eden Radio has launched careers for many people and as a community station we are generally the starting point for those interested in radio.”

Roarke said the decision to attract youth to the station falls in line with its vision.

“When we started the station, we wanted to focus on the community and by getting community members involved not only will we fulfil people’s dreams but also help grow the community and local business.”

“The more people involved in the station the more people will hear about what we do and the charities and causes we support.”

Since it was established Eden Radio has enjoyed a close relationship with charities, causes and organisations in the community.

“I believe this is an awesome opportunity for young people not only to grow their skills but grow their own brand,” said Roarke.
