Help police trace family of man killed in fire

"Police are in possession of Sefako's ID and are appealing to his family, who are believed to reside in Rustenburg, North-West, to come forward to help confirm the identity through a DNA analysis."

Cleveland SAPS opened an inquest after the discovery of a badly burnt body at the Mangolongolo informal settlement in Denver.

Neighbours alerted police to the scene after a shack that had caught fire burnt to the ground on October 10.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown.

“An investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death of is underway,” said Jordaan.

The SAPS, in attempts to confirm the identity of the victim, released the name of the person they believe died in the fire to the media.

“Following an autopsy, we believe the victim is 54-year-old Lucas Tumelo Sefako, who was known to reside in the shack that was destroyed in the fire,” said Jordaan.

“He was last seen entering the shack after making his way back from work.

“Police are in possession of Sefako’s ID and are appealing to his family, who are believed to reside in Rustenburg, North-West, to come forward to help confirm the identity through a DNA analysis.

“The deceased was burnt beyond recognition and police are currently in the process of trying to get a hold of his family,” said Jordaan.

“We appeal to anyone who may know the deceased or have information about his family’s whereabouts to come forward.”
