"This year was my third time participating. I had so much fun while running."

The marathon started in Pietermaritzburg and finished at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban where Moloi finished in nine hours, 54 minutes and 17 seconds.

“This year was my third time participating. I had so much fun while running but it was also difficult because of the distance.

“Before running the marathon all I did was watch it on television. One day, I saw many senior citizens running. They inspired me and I started training to also take part,” he said.

Moloi started running the Slow Mag Marathon in Benoni.

He said he used to play soccer as a young boy.

“I never thought I would see myself participating as a marathon runner. I had passion for soccer not marathon. But in 1980 I decided to retire from soccer. I didn’t have a hobby and I needed something to keep myself fit.

“I tried gym but that didn’t work out for me. In 2013 I started participating as a runner and I have never looked back since,” he said.

“I look forward to take part in the 2019 Comrades,” said Moloi.
