This donation comes after the school’s principal, Ronald Nyathi, pleaded for assistance from Ward 65 Clr Lindani Zulu after a visit to the school.

Malvern High School principal Ronald Nyathi addresses learners at assembly with the ANC officials who donated 120 chairs.

“We have been requesting chairs from the department with no luck. The matric exams are to start next week and we did not have chairs to get the hall ready for exams. Previously we had to use the chairs learners use in class.

“With this donation, we can now get the hall ready on time. We are grateful for the donation,” said Nyathi.

He said he was pleased with the quick response to the school’s request.

“We did not expect the councillor to help us so quickly. We requested assistance when he visited the school and he promised that he will try to assist,” said Nyathi.

“The councillor said coming from a teaching background he understood the challenges of not having an exam site ready on time,” said Nyathi.

“When the principal requested assistance with chairs I had to make a plan in ensuring that the school gets chairs. As the councillor it’s my duty to ensure that schools in the area are also looked after,” said Zulu.

The chairs were donated by the ANC office.

Member of Parliament Mpape Nkanyane also took the opportunity to speak to the learners about preparing for exams.

He encouraged learners to study and dedicate themselves to their work.

Also on August 6, the councillor visited the school to donate sanitary towels.

“Learners should not miss a day of school because they don’t have sanitary towels. Some learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds and they can not afford to buy these items. If the school has sanitary towels learners will know they can go to school and receive help,” said Zulu.

“As a school, we appreciate that our leader thought of our school and saw the need that some of our learners have,” said Nyathi.
