Residents talk about the draft land use scheme

The EXPRESS asked residents how do they feel about the new Draft Land Use Scheme.

On June 29, council granted approval for the beginning of public consultations on the Draft Land Use Scheme.

The scheme seeks to do away with the city’s historic town planning schemes adopted in the 1970s and early 1980s, in favour of a new single, consolidated regulatory tool.

The EXPRESS asked residents how they feel about the new Draft Land Use Scheme.

Julie Bonnett said, “It’s good that we can make submissions on the land use policy. It is imperative that we keep the value of the suburb. Allowing crime and grime is not going to keep it up. We can not create problems that will require by-law enforcement when the city is currently not coping.”
Raul Teixeira said, “It’s a good thing that residents can have a say on the land use policy. At the end of the day it all boils down to who will regulate and control the process. We need more law and order.”
Charles Hellyar said, “It’s good that the new policy is being discussed. I’m just concerned by the lack of interest from residents because it will affect them in the future.”
Alan Maule said, “It’s good that the city is allowing residents to comment on the policy so we can understand what it means and how it will affect the renting out of rooms, building plans and how many people can stay on my property.”
