Jumpers residents feel hopeless

Jumpers - Residents said after months of trying to get leaking taps fixed and drains unblocked, the problem has not been resolved.

Residents at Jumpers informal settlement said they have lost hope with the City of Joburg as there has been no service delivery at their informal settlement.

They said after months of trying to get leaking taps fixed and drains unblocked the problem has not been resolved.

“I don’t know who to ask anymore for better service delivery as nothing gets done,” said Robert Motau.

Motau said the leaking taps causes a problem at his residence.

“My house is always wet inside because of the leakage. I blame no one but the municipality. They promised heaven and earth but nothing gets done. All they do is talk but they do not deliver,” he said.

He said there are puddles and flowing water at the settlement.

Another resident, Lerato Mosia, said the shortage of taps made it even more difficult for them as they have to wait in long queues to get water.

An inquiry was sent to City of Joburg’s deputy director of media relations, Nthatisi Modingoane who referred the EXPRESS to Buntukazi Xuba and Patric Phophi.

The inquiry was sent to both Xuba and Phophi on August 11.

A comment was requested by August 16.
