Learners talk about clean-up project

"Litter is human error and it can only be corrected by humans.”

Mayor Herman Mashaba launched the clean-up campaign, A Re Sebetseng, a monthly clean-up initiative, last week. The EXPRESS asked the learners from Malvern High School what they think of residents cleaning up their neighbourhoods once a month.

Philasande Mazibuko said, “It’s a good initiative. It is about time we keep our community clean and be responsible. Litter is human error and it can only be corrected by humans.”
Landry Bigirimana said, “I think it’s a good idea to clean up our community. The level of filth is a health hazard. We live in these communities and we need to keep them clean.”
Quezia Mutondo said, “I think it’s a good idea to get the community involved in cleaning up the city because it will encourage them to keep the environment clean. It will also give them a sense of pride because they will take responsibility, ensuring that they keep the area clean.”
Luyanda Msimanga said, “I think the initiative is a good idea because it will teach people to be responsible and stop littering. We need to start being kind to the environment. Cleaning up as a community once a month is a road to a clean city.”
Sanelisiwe Zwane said, ”I think the initiative is a good idea because we are the ones who litter. We are the cause of the problem but we can also be a solution to keeping our environment clean.”
