One killed in Yeoville shoot-out with SAPS

YEOVILLE - Cluster commander applauded police officials for a good job.

A suspect was shot and killed during a shoot-out with SAPS in Yeoville, on July 8.

According to the station’s spokesperson Captain Sifiso Mabizela, police received a tip-off about the burglary at a local tuck shop at Grafton and Webb streets.

“Police [officers] proceeded to the given address. Upon arrival, they found three suspects inside the tuck shop while another two were standing outside.”

Mabizela said the five suspects immediately fled the scene while firing shots at the police officers.

“Police chased them and returned fire. Two suspects were shot. One died on the scene. The other was taken to hospital,” he said.

A third suspect was arrested during investigation.

“Police seized live ammunition that was in his possession,” he said.

The suspect appeared in court on charges of business robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Joburg East police cluster commander Major General Dimakatso Ndaba applauded police officers.

The other two suspects are still on the run and police investigations are continuing.
